The first part stressed me out with past trauma of feeding my kids nonstop puffs to keep them from losing it, the second part made me glad I had (and still have) those experiences. I flew with my 8 year old out to California last month for a work trip, and while it was difficult at times (mostly him having to accompany me around Lake Tahoe with no other kids in sight), it was still something I'm glad I did, mostly cause I got to explain to him the idiocy of slot machines in the Las Vegas airport.

I remember that there were So Many things that were both harder and more fun with the kids along. Grocery shopping, anyone..?

Wow, flying with young kids. Now that brings back memories. The kind you want to be able to look back on, not the kind I particularly want to re-do.

This is a lovely vignette--I found it so heartwarming to read about how your fellow passengers treated you and your daughter when you were clearly having a rough time. Flying tends to bring out the worst in people and it would have been easy for them to be jerks, yet they chose to be kind.

I loved this! It is so true. When I'm on an airplane and someone has a child making a racket, it never bothers me and actually makes me miss traveling with my kids. Back when Southwest Airlines flight attendants could be animated and joke and make flights actually fun, I was traveling with both of my children and the attendant was doing the safety check and announced that "If you are traveling with more than one child, then pick your favorite and put the oxygen mask on that one first." Both of my kids looked up at me in incredulously. Those memories of flying with Vi will remain with you forever. Keep writing Charlie. You have a great talent and ability to describe things vividly.

Charlie, you are a wonderful father and writer. I am glad you are enjoying both. Best of luck with your surgery and recovery.
