Thanks for the piece Charlie! Many things resonate with me both as a business co-owner and frequent patron of small businesses. Buying something from a chain store vs. a mom'n'pop place hits differently.
I'm working on my chaplaincy positional paper that's gonna blend Buddhist practice with small business philosophy 🥹 your newsletter is a timely reference
As a small business owner, I just LOVE everything about this article. The article itself is everything a small business should be. Clear, inspiring, to the point, usable, ownership driven. Every part of the article supports the articulate and inspiring conclusion that small business matters. "supporting small businesses is not just a personal choice, but a moral imperative for those with the will and the resources" - your case is made so well to back up this spiky point of view. I am 100% on board. Going to share this around.
I'd always thought business was kinda icky until recently. Something clicked when I realized it can be about service. Of course there are dark patterns of commerce and all that, but at its best, it's generous and useful. Thanks for writing this!

I hate to be annoying but the answer exists and it is called socialism.
Preach Charlie, preach!
The closer you get the your commerce the further you get from supporting the shart lords in the world still using slave labor (https://www.thenation.com/article/society/prison-workers-exploitation/)...know and support thine neighbor!
