Cathedral: The Novel

Unfortunately, we don’t know who the original scholar who compiled this was, but out of a shared respect for their work, the below introduction is reproduced entirely.

Introduction

It is my distinct honor to catalog these archives for your reading pleasure.

It has become passe to lionize the pilgrims, with many instead opting for a more “complete” accounting of who they were and what they wanted. This collection of excerpts from the archives is meant to satisfy that desire while still imparting some small narrative to the pilgrims’ experience I have taken a few stylistic licenses with what you’re about to read:

  • The archives contain all manner of text and record. Whenever possible, the texts presented will opt for narrative and epistolary, but occasionally there are other types of records.

  • Everything you read will be presented in chronological order according to when the events in it happened.

  • These archives cover a period hundreds of years long. Each text you read comes roughly ten to twenty years after the text that precedes it.

Who I am is unimportant. What I, and the other members of the Arc Preservation Society, hope to show here is that a more full accounting of the lives of the pilgrims gives you more appreciation for who they were and what they wanted, rather than less. The first text starts just before the launch of the arc.
