Thank you! I don't know about wedding coach, but if I ever get famous, I would love to be one of those people who gets invited to fan's weddings and makes an appearance with a crazy, lavish gift. Like a wedding crasher but actually invited all the time.
This was so beautiful. There’s such joy in the writing and it makes it all feel so life affirming. I generally shy away from organising even the smallest of parties but this makes me yearn to celebrate. Thank you for a lovely read!
This was a much needed read! My wedding is 33 days out, and as we start really zeroing in on everything that still needs to be done, your passion and enthusiasm is infectious. I suddenly can’t wait for my wedding all over again :’)
Your wedding was wonderful! I hope you can come to mine but totally understand if you can’t. But there will be lots of dancing I hope! I think I can see the back of my head in this photo-haha
Completely agree with all you said here, Charlie. Love how you articulated many thoughts I have around this.
I got married 4 years ago, we'd already been together for like 10 years before. ~220 guests (small-ish for Mexico, as you know, big families). I wasn't that convinced of a big wedding, but when we decided we would do one I went all in and we made it very ours, very atypical.
Won't get into details but the feeling of having most of the people important to you celebrating your love on one specific day and place, is something every couple should get to experience fully and in their own manner. Very glad you wrote about this!
This is one of my favorite essays. I can almost hear you telling me how much you love weddings and why. As an Indian, my culture is big on massive weddings. I didn’t know 60% of the people at my wedding. It was a party my parents threw and we had no jobs and no ability to pay for anything. Don’t know why 600 people need to be at an event. The nicest wedding was a Russian-Jewish wedding I went to upstate. They explained all the Jewish and catholic traditions and prayed for their deceased at the ceremony. I find weddings absolutely fascinating. Thanks Charlie!
The way I clicked on this essay so fast! I've always been pro-city hall small weddings, but am slowly edging away from that after realizing that weddings are a GREAT occasion to have all of your favourite people in one room. This might be the essay that convinces me to not skimp out on that big day when that big day comes. Thanks, Charlie!
Great piece Charlie! I feel like there’s so much guilt and feelings of expectations around a wedding and sometimes the most unhappy people seem to be the bride and groom. Like everything, it’s important to lean into what’s important to you (and lots of dancing). Love this take!
This is one of my favourite posts by you, Charlie!
Your words exude so much passion and I love the exercise and sentimental gem of a photo from your wedding.
Do I foresee a part-time gig as a wedding coach in your future?! 😂
P.S. I love how “Texas” the go big or go home message is. True to your roots! 🤠

That would be phenomenal. Fingers crossed reality tv is in your future! 🤞

Thank you! I appreciate it. This is exactly the feeling I hoped the essay would inspire.

Well done, Charlie. Does it shock you to know I have the opposite opinion of weddings? :)
A little bit--you strike me as someone who likes to cut a rug.
I'll cut a rug!
